Vectors: Noseroom

Noseroom is a concept I learned in chapter eight of our text, Sound, Sight & Motion. It has to do with index vectors within a video or picture frame. The picture on the left is an example of a shot where there is no noseroom. The picture on the right is an example of the proper amount of noseroom left in the frame.

It's pretty obvious which image looks more balanced. In the left image, the index vector has crashed into the screen edge. In the image on the right, the photographer has compensated for the increasing index vector by pulling the subject back.
